When I was asked to write a work for Jackson High School’s 100th year

celebration, I knew I wanted to create something that honored the idea of

time. In every part of life, time shapes us—whether we feel we have plenty of

it or sense the urgency of it slipping away. It carries both triumphs and

challenges, but its greatest gift is the opportunity to fully live within it.

Each moment invites us to create something meaningful—to build memories that outlast the seconds in which they are made. With that spirit in mind, I

composed From Year to Year, a celebration of moments, milestones, and the legacy they form.

Throughout the piece, you’ll hear echoes of ticking clocks, shifting tempos,

and musical gestures that suggest time stretching, racing, and transforming.

At the heart of the work lies its emotional core: a timeless statement of the

school’s alma mater. It stands as a reminder that as time moves forward, our

memories remain—carried from one class to the next, passed down like a torch.
